Driving Class Geared to Senior Citizens

To help aging drivers keep their skills sharp, the American Assn. of Retired Persons will offer a driver improvement course July 9 and 10 at Simi Valley Senior Citizens Center.
The class, called the “55 Alive Mature Driver Improvement Course,” will span eight hours over the course of two nights.
Open to people 55 and older, the course is specifically geared to the needs of older motorists. Participants will watch videos and swap personal motoring experiences. And they will receive a Department of Motor Vehicles certificate--which can lead to lower insurance rates--when the course is completed, said Kathryn O. Medley, the senior center’s services coordinator.
To fit the schedules of working seniors, the classes will be held between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. both nights.
The course costs $8 and fills up fast, Medley said. The senior center is at 3900 Avenida Simi. For information or to register, call (805) 583-6363.
