Notre Dame junior Justin Fargas and Camarillo senior Joe Borchard are among the nominees for Cal High Sports state athlete of the year.
Borchard was the quarterback for the Camarillo football team that won the Southern Section Division III title, and was the Marmonte League co-MVP in baseball.
Fargas rushed for 2,945 yards and 34 touchdowns for the Knights, who lost to Camarillo in the Division III football championship. He also won the state 100-meter championship in track.
Jen Detmer, a Thousand Oaks senior, is among the girls’ nominees. Detmer averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Lancers in basketball and is headed to Stanford on a volleyball scholarship.
There are eight nominees for both boys and girls. The winners will be announced next week.
