City Council Elects First Woman Mayor
The first woman mayor of Huntington Park was elected by the City Council on Tuesday night, ending nearly a century of male leadership in the city.
Jessica Maes, who in 1994 became one of the first female City Council members, was elected as mayor in an unanimous council vote before a packed audience of 500 people. Maes will hold the position for one year.
In addition to Maes, newly elected City Councilwoman Linda Luz Guevara was voted in as mayor pro tem. They are the first women to hold those positions since Huntington Park was incorporated in 1906.
