Bundles of Pot Found in Car After Chase
A 24-year-old Stanton man was arrested early Wednesday after a freeway traffic stop led to the discovery of 26 pounds of marijuana in the car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Juan Gutierrez was being held Wednesday in lieu of $25,000 at the Orange County Jail after his arrest about 12:20 a.m. in a cul-de-sac just off the Garden Grove Freeway near Fairview Street, CHP Officer Bonnie Blatt said.
A CHP officer attempted to pull over Gutierrez along the eastbound lanes of the freeway on suspicion of driving under the influence, she said.
But after stopping briefly, the man allegedly sped off and led the officer on a short chase through surface streets, Blatt said.
The four men in the car ran away when the pursuit ended on Downie Place in Garden Grove, Blatt said. Only Gutierrez, the driver, was caught and arrested, she said.
Inside the car, the officer discovered bundles of marijuana piled on the floor, Blatt said.
“None of it was hidden. It was in plain view all over the car,†Blatt said.
Gutierrez was being held on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to sell, transporting drugs and evading arrest.
