Leadership Tomorrow, a Newport Beach group that trains people to become community leaders, has honored several of its graduates.

At its annual Excellence in Leadership Awards, one member from each of Leadership Tomorrow’s nine graduating classes was cited. They are:

* Jeffrey Wilcox, parent volunteer, Newport-Mesa Unified School District. He has served on the district’s budget advisory committee, community involvement task force and sex education task force. He is a member of the Sonora School site council and the Costa Mesa High Parent-Teacher-Student Assn. and is president- elect of the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation.

* Rick Ruiz, active in Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the West Newport Beach Assn. and on the boards of Clinica Medica Familiar and Latino Leadership Council.

* Robert J. Shackelton, involved with Junior Achievement and the Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts for more than 25 years. He has also been chairman and chief financial officer of the board of the Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce.

* Jamie Trevor, president of the UC Irvine Athletic Foundation and board member, UCI Foundation. Trevor is a past president of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Advisory Council for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She is also current chairwoman of Leadership Tomorrow.

* Michael J. Zepeda Jr., advisory board member, Latino Leadership Council; Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce; and Leadership Tomorrow. He was also an instructor for Junior Achievement.

* Steve C. Moreau, board member of STOP-GAP, the American Heart Assn. and Newport Shores Community Assn. He coordinated Leadership Tomorrow’s annual health workshop for four years.

* Bill Turpit, board member, Todos Hermanos. He is also director of Families Costa Mesa, a collaboration of community groups in Costa Mesa.

* Rachel Winston, president of business development, Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce; and education chairwoman, Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce. She is also president of Educators With A Vision.

* Corinne Beacham- Greene, Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. She is also an AIDS Services Foundation “Splash” fund-raiser and president-elect of Healing Odyssey Inc.

Leadership Tomorrow offers workshops monthly from September to May on a variety of community issues. The program is open to anyone who lives or works in Costa Mesa, Irvine and Newport Beach.
