High school students from Saddleback Valley Unified School District will be honored Tuesday for raising $6,200 for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
At Tuesday’s trustees meeting, a representative from the Orange County branch of the Make-A-Wish Foundation will present students with a plaque of appreciation for their fund-raising efforts to help make a 16-year-old Orange County girl’s dream come true.
Last month, the Saddleback Valley Inter-School Council of Students held campus fund-raisers to help grant the unidentified girl’s wish to fly to New York to attend a taping of “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.”
For more than a week, the individual schools sold food, collected coins and sponsored lunchtime activities in hopes of collecting a combined $3,500.
Their efforts were so successful, they almost doubled their target number. The $6,200 they raised will enable the girl and her family to go sightseeing in New York for several days.
“To raise $6,200 is incredible,” Laguna Hills High School Activities Director Laura Ott said.
District officials will also recognize Los Alisos Intermediate School, which recently won an award from Apple Computers Inc. for its outstanding technology program.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the district office, 25631 Diseno Drive.
