Mardi Lunn and Alison Nicholas overcame high winds and shot three-under 69s to share the lead after the first round of the $650,000 LPGA Corning Classic in Corning, N.Y.
Lunn, who had an eagle three on No. 2, was headed for the best round of the day before she found trouble with a bad tee shot and made a double bogey on No. 18. Nicholas, who won at Corning two years ago, had six birdies and two bogeys for only her second round in the 60s since February.

Arizona totaled 590 to lead San Jose State (592), Arizona State (597) and UCLA (598).
Moodie followed an opening four-under 68 with a 74 to stand at two-under 142 through 36 holes over Ohio State’s Scarlet Course. That gave her a two-stroke lead over Arizona State’s Kellee Booth and Tennessee’s Jessica Lindbergh.
