The Fountain Valley Fire Department is offering senior citizens free smoke detectors and installation.
The gift is made possible through a partnership between the department, the city, the county and the Area Agency of Aging. In 1995, the latest year the city participated in the program, 42 detectors were installed.
Firefighters will place interested residents’ names on a list and contact them for an appointment. After installation, firefighters leave printed materials with the residents, home safety check lists and emergency phone numbers.
To qualify, residents must be at least 60 years old.
