Boeing to Conduct NASA Study
SEAL BEACH — Boeing Co. said it has been awarded a $4-million contract to study the consolidation of NASA’s space operations elements. Boeing said its study is being headed by the company’s Systems Development Center in Seal Beach.
The study is designed to examine the feasibility of shifting responsibility for various NASA space operations to one contractor in order to save money and free up funding for other NASA projects. Boeing is competing with Lockheed Martin Corp., which also is conducting an initial study.
A contract for one contractor could be worth $4 billion to $6 billion over a 10-year period, Boeing said.
