Pacific: Pops Stars; Film Scores
COSTA MESA — Broadway and film star Debbie Reynolds will open the Pacific Symphony’s 1997-98 Pops series at the Orange County Performing Arts Center on Nov. 21.
The series also will include appearances by Wayne Newton (Feb. 6-7), Bernadette Peters (March 6-7), Davis Gaines (April 17-18) and Marvin Hamlisch (June 5-6, 1998); joint appearances by saxophonist David Sanborn and Michael Kamen, composer of “Mr. Holland’s Opus†and other film scores (Jan. 16-17); and Christmas programs Dec. 12-13 with jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, conductor Randall Fleischer and the All-American Boys Chorus.
Each concert will begin at 8 p.m. The first half of each will feature the orchestra playing classical pieces and music from movie scores. Subscriptions will be available June 2 ($119 to $420). Individual tickets ($22 to $51) will go on sale five weeks before each concert. (714) 755-5799.
