Home Fire Causes $65,000 in Damage
Ventura County firefighters extinguished a Sunday morning blaze that seriously damaged a Simi Valley home, authorities said.
Six engine companies responded to the fire, which erupted about 7:30 a.m. in the garage of a house in the 1400 block of Olympic Street and quickly spread into the living area of the residence.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, but not before it caused about $65,000 in damage. No one was home when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a cigarette that ignited a mattress in the garage.
