Brian Ralph of Laguna Niguel, a junior outfielder for Harvard, was named Ivy League player of the year in baseball. Ralph, a graduate of Dana Hills High, helped lead the Crimson to its first league title since 1985.
Jason Wynn of Huntington Beach, a senior second baseman at Columbia, also earned first-team honors. Pitcher Donald Jamieson, a sophomore at Harvard and a graduate of El Dorado High, was honorable mention.
Ralph batted .393 this season and was tied for the team lead in doubles (41) and home runs (six). Jamieson had a 3-0 league record with a 4.10 earned-run average.

Kim Fischer of Irvine, a junior center fielder for C.W. Post of the New York Collegiate Athletic League, was named to the all-conference first team in softball.
Fischer batted .352 in the leadoff spot, scored 41 runs and struck out only five times.
She helped the Pioneers to a school-record 38-11 mark and the conference’s first unbeaten season, 19-0.

Pepperdine’s David Matranga, from Orange High, earned first-team All-West Coast Conference honors. Matranga, a sophomore shortstop, batted .305 with 11 homers and 50 runs batted in.
Teammate Steve Schenewer, from Fountain Valley, was named the conference’s freshman of the year and was voted to the second team. A pitcher, he had an 8-3 record.

The Newport Lawn Bowling Club’s annual Presidents Cup Open Triples tournament is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
