Spotlight: Clorox Takes a Shine to South America

Clorox Co. has been on a South American buying spree. The Oakland-based consumer products company said it paid $231.22 million for acquisitions in Latin America in the six months ended March 31. It paid $131.03 million for Argentina’s Poet San Juan, a maker of household cleaners; Chile’s Electroquimicas Unidas, a maker of bleach; and a line of insecticides. It also purchased the remaining minority interest of its business in Argentina and other business interests in Mexico, Chile and Colombia.
