Pacific Bell Antenna Tower Placed on Hold

A Faria Beach homeowner has effectively stalled installation of a 35-foot cellular antenna tower after the California Coastal Commission decided his plea for additional environmental review warranted further study.

Bill Stratton said the commission voted 8 to 1 during its meeting Tuesday in Santa Barbara to conduct a more detailed study of Pacific Bell’s antenna plans.

“It puts Pac Bell on hold,” Stratton said.

The commission will take up the matter again at its July meeting, he said.

Pacific Bell wants to place four panel antennas on a 35-foot pole near Faria County Park. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved the tower’s installation in March, unconvinced it would harm the tiny seaside community.

But Stratton and other opponents argue that the proposed antenna violates state coastal planning standards, ruins the area’s scenic beauty, poses health risks to residents and could disturb wildlife.
