China Trade Status

The article “Religious Right Enters Fray Over Trade Status for China” (May 2) and the letter in response to it (May 7) both struck me as highly ironic.
The religious right has reacted with indifference (at best) in Latin America and elsewhere when the people tortured, imprisoned and killed were labor leaders, artists, intellectuals or peasants (not to mention their consistent disavowal of the pervasive racist, sexist and homophobic violence in America itself). Now that pastors are included in the oppressed group, suddenly they care. Whatever it takes, I guess.
