TONIGHT’S GAME

Dodgers’ Pedro Astacio (3-0), 2.00 ERA) vs. Cubs’ Terry Mulholland (3-3, 2.79 ERA)

* UPDATE: The Dodgers get another breather, two games against baseball’s worst team. The Cubs already are considering trading their high-priced veterans. The Dodgers, winners of nine of their last 12 games, beat Chicago in two of three games last week at Dodger Stadium. Their concern is still their offense. Shortstop Greg Gagne, their hottest hitter in April, is batting only .125 over the last eight games. Catcher Mike Piazza is hitless in his last 13 at-bats. Pedro Astacio, tonight’s starting pitcher for the Dodgers, has struggled against the Cubs. He is 1-5 with a 5.21 ERA against them. The Cubs are coming off a 4-7 trip during which they gave up 52 runs and 102 hits, stranded 86 runners and committed 14 errors. Left-hander Terry Mulholland, who starts tonight for the Cubs, yielded only six hits and one run in 8 2/3 innings in his last start against the Dodgers.

Wednesday, 5 p.m.--Ramon Martinez (3-2, 4.07 ERA) vs. Steve Trachsel (1-4, 7.03).
