Meeting to Highlight Notable District Grads
Jim Griffis has dug through the Garden Grove Unified School District’s archives and has found some amazing things.
He’s found that hundreds of famous entertainers, respected chiefs of police, professional athletes and successful business leaders all name Garden Grove schools as their alma maters.
In a presentation to the board of education tonight, Griffis, administrative assistant to the superintendent, plans to highlight some of the achievers in an effort to make the board and the community aware of graduates’ successes.
He will start with Steve Martin, the comedian whom Griffis coached in football and taught math.
“I want to show the quality and level of some of the great graduates we’ve had over the years, so we can take a little pride in the kids who came out of our system.â€
Kids like Gary Hall, who went on to break numerous world swimming records, and baseball great Lenny Dykstra.
During the meeting, Griffis will also talk about dozens of less famous graduates who have made notable achievements.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Garden Grove Unified School District Education Center board room, 10331 Stanford Ave.
