Igou Stems Tide for San Francisco
Junior left-hander Rich Igou pitched a six-hitter and San Francisco beat Pepperdine, 4-3, on Saturday in a West Coast Conference baseball game in Malibu.
Igou (3-5), from Notre Dame High, struck out three and walked four while ending Wave streaks of eight consecutive victories and 13 in a row at home.
Pepperdine (19-16, 7-1 in WCC play), which won the first three games of the series, scored in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by Rob Reid and got to within 4-3 in the seventh on a two-out, two-run homer by David Matranga.
Igou retired the final seven batters in his first complete game of the season.
The Dons (15-18, 3-5) scored all of their runs in the first two innings.
SOFTBALL
Tennessee 4-5, Cal State Northridge 0-6--Chelo Lopez, Cheri Shinn and Elizabeth Sanchez hit home runs for the Matadors (17-13-2) in the second game against the Volunteers (27-14) at Northridge.
Sanchez drove in three runs and Shinn had two RBIs.
VOLLEYBALL
CS Northridge d. UC San Diego, 12-15, 15-11, 15-6, 15-8--Chad Strickland had 30 kills and 10 digs to lead the Matadors (13-10) in a nonconference match at UC San Diego.
Jason Hughes had 22 kills for the Matadors.
