Clipper update--They are in position to secure their first playoff berth in four years. Forward Rodney Rogers has blossomed since becoming a reserve. Rogers, who had 17 points in Wednesday night’s 108-98 victory over the Sacramento Kings, has averaged 19.2 points in his last six games. Guard Brent Barry has averaged 14 points in his last three games. Guard Darrick Martin scored a career-high 38 points in a, 115-101, victory over the Jazz on Dec. 30 at the Sports Arena. The Clippers have lost their last 13 games at Utah.
Jazz update--They return home after winning six of seven games on an eastern trip. Forward Karl Malone, who passed Jerry West as the NBA’s 10th-leading scorer by getting 32 points in Wednesday night’s 113-100 victory at Boston, has averaged 34.7 points in the last four games. Guard John Stockton has averaged 25.5 points in his last two games against the Clippers.
