Aliso Niguel Holds Off San Clemente

Aliso Niguel took an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and never gave up the lead, hanging on to upset host San Clemente, 62-56, in a Southern Section Division I-A boys’ basketball first-round playoff game.
Jeff Munsell scored 26 points for Aliso Niguel (18-9) and Nathan Hair added 12. Rick Saul led San Clemente (17-9) with 22 points, including five three-pointers.
Aliso Niguel will host Mission Viejo in a second-round game Tuesday.
Dana Hills 65, Marina 61--Reid Spiegl scored nine of his game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead visiting Dana Hills (16-12). Larry Page added 14 points and Jeremy Henderson scored 12 for the Dolphins, who will host South Coast League rival Mater Dei on Tuesday.
Peter Yoon scored 11 points for Marina (17-10).
Mater Dei 70, El Toro 45--Kevin Augustine scored 23 points and had 12 assists to lead Mater Dei (26-2) at the Bren Center. Mike Vukovich had 13 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks for the top-seeded Monarchs.
Fab Mendiola scored 18 for El Toro (18-9).
Cerritos 65, Edison 52--Cerritos will play third-seeded Glendora, a 58-49 winner over Huntington Beach, on Tuesday.
