Grant to Prepare Students for Careers

The city’s school district has received a $30,000 grant to better prepare students for transition to the workplace, officials announced.
The grant, from the Orange County Coalition Vision 2020, will pay for what officials described as “school-to-career activities,” including field trips to local businesses, reviewing curriculum for applicability to the workplace, job shadowing, mentorships, career counseling and other programs.
A task force of about 60 volunteers from local companies, churches, schools and the city government will participate in the program and help develop relationships with local industry.
Vision 2020’s goal is to help prepare Orange County youth for productive employment in diverse fields, officials said.
