Student Efforts Aided 33 Needy Families

Students at Sonora High School raised about $10,000 in cash and goods to give to needy families over the holidays.
Through the pupils’ fund-raising efforts, Sonora Principal Terry Kent said, 33 families received gifts, food, clothing and grocery store certificates in time for Christmas. The annual campaign raised twice the amount in 1996 than in the previous year, he said.
With the cash donations, students shopped at local supermarkets and bought groceries for the 33 families that they helped.
Kent said the families represented about 200 people altogether.
