11-Run Inning Carries SCC Past Chapman

Southern California College scored 11 runs in the second inning and went on to beat Chapman, 12-6, in a nonconference baseball game Thursday at SCC.
Bryan Davis had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs and Mike Caston had a home run and two runs batted in for SCC.
Luiz Garcia had three hits, including a home run, drove in four and scored three runs for Chapman.
Donald Zeigler (2-0) gave up seven hits and five runs in six innings for the victory.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Southern California College 6, California Baptist 1--Jeff Baker and Hayden Kemp won their single matches, 6-1, 6-1, for SCC (3-0). In doubles, Baker and Kemp teamed to defeat Jesse Escalola and Travis Laudia, 8-4.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Southern California College 5, Occidental 2--Serena Xie won her singles match, 6-0, 6-0, over Occidental’s Mary Munoz, then Xie teamed with Amy Tate for an 8-4 victory over Munoz and Tammy Tam for SCC (5-1).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
UC San Diego 69, Pacific Christian 36--Nicole Kubota scored 14 points and Adrienne Penn added 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss for visiting Pacific Christian (6-17). San Diego (15-5) was led by Cindy Yamasaki’s 14 points, including four three-pointers.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, Loyola Marymount 0--Brian Laske, Jon Habben and Mike Pupp each had seven kills in a 15-13, 15-10, 16-14 victory for Irvine (2-5, 2-3 in conference). Tim Farmer had 16 kills for Loyola Marymount (2-5, 1-5).
