An Oxnard man and a Ventura man were arrested on suspicion of ganging up on two men in a car, beating them and taking their vehicle, authorities said Thursday.

The carjacking occurred about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Saint Mary’s Drive at Vineyard Avenue, an Oxnard Police Department spokesman said.

The confrontation began after the victims got into a fight at Leonardo’s nightclub on Wagon Wheel Road in Oxnard, left the club and sped away, the spokesman said.

They were followed by two cars. One pulled in front of them and stopped as they were trying to turn left off Vineyard onto Saint Mary’s, he said. Another car pulled up behind the victims’ car.

At least 10 people got out of the two vehicles and beat the pair, then took their car, the spokesman said. The two men, whose names were not released, suffered minor injuries.

A short time after the incident, Officer Erik Mora stopped a vehicle that matched the description of one driven by two of the suspects. The pair--21-year-old Erik Yanes of Oxnard and 19-year-old Jose Zizumbo of Ventura--were identified by witnesses and arrested, police said.

Officers searched their pickup and found some of the property stolen from the victims, the police spokesman said.

Officers later found the victims’ vehicle on East 5th Street, police said.

Yanes and Zizumbo are in Ventura County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges of carjacking and receiving stolen goods, a jail spokeswoman said. Bail is set at $50,000 for each suspect. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
