Writers Group Sponsors Contest

Budding poets and prose stylists, take note.

The Simi Valley branch of the National League of American Pen Women is accepting entries in its annual writing competition. The contest proceeds will fund a scholarship for a local high school graduate who is interested in writing.

The local group--part of a national organization of professional writers, artists and composers--will judge entries in three categories: poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Each first-place winner will receive $100, and the contest is open to people of both genders.

Entry fees are $3 per poem and $5 for each fiction or nonfiction piece. All entries must be postmarked on or before July 30. Winners will be notified by mail.
