A sheriff’s deputy employed at the Van Nuys courthouse was arrested Sunday and charged with stealing computer equipment, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
John Olivas, 29, a seven-year veteran of the department, was arrested on suspicion of burglary after a weeklong investigation by the Sheriff’s Department’s Internal Investigations Division, said Deputy Bob Killeen. Details of the alleged crime, including what type of equipment was stolen, its value and from where it was taken, were not released.
Olivas works as a bailiff in the prisoner detention area at the Van Nuys Courthouse, Killeen said. He was being held in the Men’s Central Jail on $15,000 bail awaiting arraignment today.
