‘Pillowcase Rapist’ Is Acquitted in Break-In

The man known as the “pillowcase rapist,” who was severely beaten by vigilantes who thought he broke into a woman’s home and stole a purse, was acquitted of the break-in. Reginald Muldrew, linked to as many as 200 sex crimes in California in the 1970s, was found not guilty of burglary, confinement and robbery in connection with the break-in Aug. 5 in Gary, Ind. Muldrew, 49, was dubbed the “pillowcase rapist” because he put pillowcases over his victims’ heads to conceal his identity.
