Sunny Days, Light Breezes Forecast

Valley residents can expect pleasant weather this week, with hazy mornings, sunny afternoons and light breezes, weather forecasters said Sunday.
“It looks like it’s going to be mostly clear except for some late-night, early-morning low clouds and fog,” said Dennis Tussey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Usually, pleasant weather in the area is the product of a predominant high-pressure system that hovers over the area, blocking storm systems. But this time, the Los Angeles area is being protected by a split in the jet stream, Tussey said.
Half of the jet stream is far to the north, keeping cold Arctic air and storm systems in Washington state. A weaker jet stream is flowing between Los Angeles and San Francisco, giving our area more of a buffer.
“It’s keeping all the good, cold air to the north and allowing for only minor upper-level disturbances to come to us from the west,” Tussey said. The minor disturbances he referred to are the light ocean breezes that blew through the area Sunday and may continue today.
Today’s high temperature is expected to be 68 in Woodland Hills and Burbank.
