Mother Settles Suit in School Bus Death
The mother of a boy dragged and then crushed to death by a school bus in Kansas City received a $14-million settlement and said she would spend some of it promoting school bus safety. Ryan W. Sayles, 14, was run over after the drawstring of his jacket got caught in the door handrail as he got off the bus in May 1995. In the settlement, Vancom Transportation of Oakbrook, Ill., also agreed to write warning letters to parents of children it transports in more than 150 school districts. Kim Sayles said she will create a scholarship foundation named for her only child.
