A 21-year-old Oxnard man was listed in critical condition Friday after being shot at least five times the night before on a street in south Oxnard.
Gary Cabral was in surgery most of the morning at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
Cabral was shot in the back and torso at least five times about 8:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Saviers Road, said Oxnard police spokesman David Keith. Cabral managed to get into his car and drive about a block before crashing into a tree on South A Street, Keith said.
Police had few details on what prompted the shooting, but said it appears to be gang-related.
Detectives collected shell casings Friday morning but had difficulty locating cooperative witnesses.
“We know there are people out there that saw this, but we need them to come forward,” Keith said.
