Hull Streak Hits 11
The beat goes on for Brett Hull.
Hull extended his scoring streak to 11 games with a goal and two assists as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-2, Thursday night at Kanata, Ontario.
Hull continued his streak by assisting on Igor Kravchuk’s fourth goal, 10:23 into the first period. He scored his goal 8:35 into the third period and assisted on Geoff Courtnall’s 13th with six minutes left.
The Blues set a club record with their fifth consecutive road win.
Florida 3, Boston 1--Ray Sheppard set up the first two Panther goals at Miami on a night when defenseman Ray Bourque tied John Bucyk’s 30-year-old Bruin scoring record. Bourque’s short-handed goal in the second period gave him 1,339 points. He has 352 goals and 987 assists in 18 seasons.
The Panthers were outshot, 38-16, but Florida goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck stopped 37 shots for his fourth consecutive victory.
Montreal 4, Tampa Bay 1--Martin Rucinsky scored twice and the Canadiens ended a four-game losing streak with the victory at Tampa.
The triumph was Montreal’s first at Tampa Bay after six losses and two ties.
San Jose 6, Calgary 3--Andrei Nazarov had two goals and two assists and goaltender Ed Belfour won his first game for the Sharks at Calgary.
Both of Nazarov’s goals came in the first period as the Sharks took a 3-0 lead on only four shots against Calgary goaltender Trevor Kidd.
Vancouver 2, New York 1--Jyrki Lumme scored on a backhander 90 seconds into overtime to give the Canucks the victory at home.
The Canucks had constant pressure in the Islander zone from the opening faceoff of overtime. Alexander Mogilny carried over the blue line at the right point and slid a pass into the slot to a cutting Lumme, who backhanded a rolling puck over goaltender Tommy Salo’s left shoulder.
Mike Sillinger also scored for Vancouver.
