Students Stranded in Small, Fierce Storm

Bitter cold and more snow hit the upper Midwest on the heels of a confined but ferocious blizzard that closed highways and left hundreds of children stranded in schools overnight. In St. Paul. Minn., officials released teams of low-risk prisoners from their cells so they could clear snow from the city’s 6,000 fire hydrants. In several western Minnesota counties hard hit by the storm, children were kept in school for the night because bus drivers couldn’t see the road to take them home.
