Orange Coast College is hosting the Southern California Food Industry Conference today and Wednesday.
The conference is designed for academics, agricultural experts, dietitians, nutritionists, food industry representatives, government food officials, home economists, consumer specialists and students.
Workshops include “Food Allergies and the Immune Response System,†“Seafood Allergies,†“The Consumer’s Perspective on Food Allergies,†“Beverage Ingredients for Romance and Profit,†“Specialty Coffees, Specialty Teas†and “Chocolate: The Name Says It All.â€

The college also is offering a nine-week course on vegetarianism that begins this month. The one-unit class, offered by the nutrition department, will cover diet, preparation, cultural issues and other aspects of a meatless diet.
The course meets from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday evenings beginning Jan. 21. Registration is underway in the admissions office. The college is at 2701 Fairview Road.
