A man was shot to death Monday evening after a confrontation with a sheriff’s deputy in West Hollywood, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Employees at a car dealership called the sheriff’s department complaining about a suspicious man wandering about the business, said Sgt. Robert Stoneman.

When the deputy arrived at the scene, the man “refused to cooperate, became combative and started fighting with the deputy,†Stoneman said. The deputy then used pepper spray, but was unable to subdue the man, authorities said.
