Water-Saving Toilets Offered to Residents in Swap Plan
The Rose Bowl is not the only bowl in Pasadena that city officials are seeking to make over. They want to change the toilet bowls as well.
Pasadena Water and Power officials are hoping to flush away homeowner’s older, water-guzzling toilets and replace them with new water-saving models.
Pasadena water customers will be able to pick up free water-saving toilets Saturday at John Muir High School.
The ultra-low volume toilets use 1.6 gallons a flush, compared to older toilets that use 3 to 5 gallons. Conservation will enable the city to purchase less water from outside sources, officials said.
As a bonus, for every old toilet eventually recycled, Muir High School will get $15, said Maria McCann, a spokeswoman for Pasadena Water and Power. “We have over 2,000 toilets,†she said. “It is nice way to educate the public and help schools.â€
Residents with Pasadena Municipal Services water bills and identification can get a maximum of two toilets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Muir, 1905 Lincoln Ave. The water-saving toilets must be installed and the old toilets dropped off at the school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 1 for recycling, officials said.
