Forum to Address New Marijuana Law
Sometimes, the voters create problems for law enforcement.
The passage of Proposition 215 by the state’s voters last November, which decriminalizes the use, possession and cultivation of marijuana for medical purposes under California law, has raised a number of thorny questions for authorities.
How local law enforcement will interpret and enforce the medical marijuana law will be the focus of a presentation Wednesday at Casa Sirena Marina Resort, 3605 Peninsula Road, in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor.
The 7:30 a.m. presentation hosted by the Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce will include as guest speakers Ventura County Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury and Dr. James W. Hornstein, the chairman of the Bioethics Committee for Ventura County Medical Center and Community Memorial Hospital.
The debate will focus on whether the state’s medical marijuana law is a viable way to relieve the misery of people suffering from terminal illnesses such as cancer and the latter stages of AIDS, or a thinly veiled ploy to legalize a banned substance.
