The Southern California Golf Assn. has made the handicap record of its members available on the Internet, but at least one member isn’t too happy about it.

“We had a serious complaint from a salesman whose boss knew his handicap number,†SCGA executive Tom Morgan said. “The boss wasn’t concerned about his scores, but he noted the number of golf rounds his salesman had played when he was supposed to be on his selling rounds.â€

No ticket? No problem: Gate crasher Scott Kerman, who claims to have attended six Super Bowls, 25 World Series games and countless other sporting events without a ticket, rationalizes his freeloading:

“Financially, the only money missing from the game is the ticket fee because you’ll still eat hot dogs and drink beer once you enter the event, with or without a ticket. Since you will be occupying an empty seat, you’ll actually be upgrading the importance of the event for TV cameras scanning what appears to be a sold-out crowd.â€

Rosenlof added that Elway was also a Shrine graduate, having played in 1979.

Remembering Ike: Washington State may be hoping that writers choosing All-America basketball teams are old enough to remember when “I Like Ike†buttons were the rage in the 1950s.

To get national recognition for forward Isaac “Ike†Fontaine, they are sending out buttons patterned after ones used for Dwight Eisenhower’s presidential campaigns, only with Fontaine’s face in the middle. There are basketballs on either side of his picture, instead of the American flag.

From the blue line: The late Jeff Krosnoff, after completing a turbulent lap in a race car: “I can imagine this is what it must feel like to be a hockey puck.â€

Trivia answer: Scott Burrell of Connecticut, who was chosen by the Seattle Mariners in the 1989 baseball draft and by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1993 NBA draft.

And finally: Life after being president can have its problems. George Bush even found that playing golf is different.

“It’s amazing how many people beat you at golf now that you’re no longer president,†he said.
