‘95 Bumper Crop Still Flourishing
* Glenn Adriatico, So., WR, Burroughs: This repeat selection improved upon last season, catching 85 passes for 1,362 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has 2,275 receiving yards in two seasons.
* Kenyatta Burris, Sr., WR, Monroe: A year after leading area City Section receivers with 14 touchdowns, Burris played a reserve role for Valley College. He had nine receptions for 189 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown against Harbor.
* Waking Bailey, Jr., DB, Kennedy: Bailey is the only three-time selection on this year’s All-Valley team, having intercepted seven passes to lead the region’s City Section players.
* Sean Cartaya, Sr., LB, Antelope Valley: A run-stopper who made 141 tackles--three shy of a team record--in 1995, Cartaya plays alongside Steve McKeon on Army’s junior varsity.
* Gabe Crecion, Sr., TE, Chaminade (Lineman of the Year): Crecion passed up a shot at professional baseball to play football for UCLA. Primarily a special teams player, he caught two passes for 46 yards at tight end.
* Ennis Davis, Sr., OL, Reseda: This Super Prep All-American, a two-way player for the Regents, was a redshirt defensive tackle for USC.
* Troy Garner, Sr., DB, Notre Dame: Garner made The Times’ team as a defensive back, with four interceptions in his senior year, but was a redshirt wide receiver for USC.
* Ted Iacenda, Sr., RB, Hart: Iacenda played two games for USC before suffering an injury and using a redshirt season. Off the field, he was charged with one count of sexual assault for allegedly having intercourse with a 17-year-old girl against her will July 7 in a Las Vegas hotel. He entered a plea of not guilty. A trial date has been set for June 23, 1997.
* Jermaine Lewis, Sr., RB, Antelope Valley (Player of the Year): In three years as a starter for the Antelopes, Lewis rushed for 5,490 yards and 75 touchdowns. He went to UCLA was a redshirt.
* Jeff Macrea, Sr., LB, El Camino Real: Macrea started at linebacker for Valley College and was named second-team All-Western State Conference, Southern Division.
* Steve McKeon, Sr., QB, Hart: The two-time All-Valley quarterback accepted an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He played for the Black Knights’ junior varsity this season.
* Edgar Nava, Sr., DL, Notre Dame: The Mission League lineman of the year anchored a revamped Valley College defensive line, recording eight tackles against Bakersfield and recovering a fumble against Moorpark.
* Greg Nortman, Sr., K, Harvard-Westlake: After kicking 10 field goals and 10 of 11 extra points for the Wolverines, Nortman attended Princeton where he was a reserve kicker.
* Durell Price, Sr., RB, Sylmar (Back of the Year): Unlike Lewis, Price played his freshman year at UCLA, appearing in nine games. He was the Bruins’ second-leading rusher with 61 carries for 210 yards.
* Elliot Silvers, Sr., OL, Agoura: The Marmonte League’s best lineman went to Washington was a redshirt at offensive tackle.
* Damion Thompson, Sr., LB, Kennedy: Thompson, who led the Cougars with 87 tackles in 1995, played for Valley College and finished the season with 48 tackles and one interception.
* Semisi Umufuke, Sr., DL, Kennedy: Having accumulated a record 22 sacks during his senior season at Kennedy, Umufuke played for Valley College where he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown in an 80-20 victory over Pierce.
* Jacob Waasdorp, Jr., DL, Quartz Hill: Waasdorp recorded over 100 tackles for the second year in a row, becoming a repeat selection. He rushed for 540 yards and five touchdowns as a fullback.
* Tony Walker, Jr., DB, Antelope Valley: Last year’s selection at defensive back became this season’s defensive player of the year. He also rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns.
* Mike Wambolt, Jr., OL, Hart: A repeat selection, the senior center also played on the defensive line for the Indians.
* Rene Zavala, Sr., OL, Sylmar: Zavala is at Cal State Northridge and did not play football.
* Jason Zdenek, Sr., DB, Chaminade: The former Eagle quarterback, who passed for 941 yards and rushed for 531 yards last year, was a redshirt defensive back at UCLA.
* Marc Zimmerman, Sr., LB, Hart: Zimmerman was a redshirt walk-on at Idaho and is considering a transfer.
