Woman Suffers Burns in Early Morning Fire
An Encino woman was burned over 40% of her body Monday when a fire raced through her second-floor apartment, a city Fire Department spokesman said.
The 31-year-old woman suffered second- and third-degree burns in the 1:50 a.m. fire. Her name was not released.
“Looks like she left something cooking,†said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.
The blaze at the three-story apartment building in the 5300 block of Newcastle Avenue caused about $20,000 in damage, Wells said.
A man, who did not live at the address, suffered minor smoke inhalation.
He and the woman were taken to Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
