The new board of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District has to grapple with the tough issues of managing increasing enrollment and pushing students to score higher on standardized tests.

Those issues are among a number of items that the board will look at today as it discusses which ones to tackle first.

The board also will talk at its special meeting about whether further reductions are needed in class sizes.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Santa Ana Country Club, 20382 Newport Blvd. Information: (714) 760-3500.
