Auditing the D.A.
Re “Board Votes to Audit District Attorney’s Office†(Dec. 11):
I couldn’t be more outraged. The fact that the board of “Stupidvisors†voted to audit the district attorney’s office, even though they have previously authorized $86,000 for the grand jury to perform an audit, should illustrate what small-minded people actually are in charge of this county.
Have the board members discovered any evidence of [mediocre performance] by the district attorney or his employees? Does anyone really care to know how much money was spent on the D.A.’s investigation into the bankruptcy or resource allocation issues? Will the audit result in any of the money spent being repaid by the D.A.? What purpose will this audit serve other than to appease the vindictiveness of the board members?
Since the bankruptcy, I have come to understand two things about our board. They are willing to accept bloated salaries but none of the responsibility, and they are willing to accept the accolades but none of the criticism.
At a time when county employees are losing their jobs to restructuring and the county should be finding ways to make better use of their limited funds, we have board members (Stanton, Steiner, and Saltarelli) voting to throw away more of the taxpayers’ money for their own ego gratification.
Yes, it is still business as usual here in the county of Orange.
