A pancake breakfast fund-raiser will be held in Oxnard this morning to raise money for a youth program.
The all-you-can-eat $3 breakfast will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church from 8 to 11 a.m.
Organizers of the program, called “Do the Right Thing,” need to raise $1,500 and $2,000 to get the program off the ground and establish nonprofit status.
The organization, founded in Florida, rewards youngsters for good behavior with certificates, gifts and ceremonies. School officials, police officers, church and community leaders hand out awards to youngsters at ceremonies.
Organizers hope to begin implementing the program citywide as soon as possible. “We need the program to recognize youths for all their accomplishments,” Vicky Gonzales said. “You hear a lot about programs that are for youths at risk but you don’t hear of any programs that actually help good kids.”
