A woman was kidnapped Thursday outside the El Toro Post Office by a man who hid in the backseat of her car and forced her to drive to a deserted location, authorities said.
The man had hidden in the 47-year-old woman’s car at Raymond Way and El Toro Road at about 3:30 p.m., wearing black clothing and a bandanna over his face, said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson.
Brandishing a handgun, he ordered her to drive to a dirt road in or near Lake Forest. When she pulled over, the man tore her clothing and tried to rape her but was scared by a noise, possibly an approaching car, Wilkerson said.
He ran away, and she drove to a relative’s house, where she called the Sheriff’s Department, Wilkerson said.
The woman is fairly certain she locked her car doors before entering the post office, Wilkerson said.
