Saving on South Africa

Your coverage of South Africa (“South African Safaris,” Nov. 24) made me very homesick--thank goodness I’ll be visiting in January!
But, as an expatriate South African, I can tell you that it is possible to get there for much less than the $2,185 quoted, and during the best time of the year for visiting, i.e. January/February.
My fare, using United to London and Air Namibia to Johannesburg, will be a total of $1,262, which includes a charge of $45 for using my credit card and a free stopover in the United Kingdom to visit friends. A little patient shopping of the consolidators brought me to Blue Coast Travel at (800) 922-7713.
