The season’s first shipment of rainbow trout will be released into Lake Casitas at noon today. All of the fish in the 1,700-pound batch--trucked in baffled, oxygenated containers from an Idaho trout farm--will be of catchable size.
“They average about a pound,†said Randy King, manager of the Lake Casitas Marina. “But every once in a while, there’s a big one in there.â€
The record catch for Lake Casitas is nine pounds. The lake will be restocked every week throughout the winter, King said.
