Mills, from Newport Harbor High, took it easy during most of the Orange Empire Conference championship race Saturday at Newport Back Bay. Mills was content to run behind Rancho Santiago’s Elly Estrada but with about 600 meters to go, Mills started to push and Estrada dropped out, Mills went on to win the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes 29 seconds. She had finished third in the conference preview run in mid-September.
