Estancia’s Dawkins Has School-Record Evening
LAGUNA BEACH — James Dawkins rushed into Estancia’s record book Friday night, breaking the single-season school rushing record by gaining 247 yards in 15 carries in Estancia’s 49-6 victory over host Laguna Beach.
Dawkins’ performance gives him 1,342 yards this season, surpassing the previous mark of 1,211 yards set last season by Bachy Gonzalez.
Along with Dawkins’ record-breaking performance, the team’s 43-point margin of victory ties the school record set in 1970 against Buena Park.
Dawkins, seventh in the county in rushing, scored on a four-yard run to give Estancia (6-3, 1-3 in league) a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
After quarterback Jeff Perry put the Eagles ahead, 14-6, in the second quarter on a four-yard touchdown run, Dawkins followed with a 17-yard run for a 21-0 Estancia lead. Perry scored on another four-yard run to give Estancia a 22-6 halftime lead.
Perry scored his third touchdown in the third quarter on a one-yard run. After a two-yard scoring run by Chris Felix, Dawkins had a 95-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
