Busy Thompkins Glad to Be Sore

Glenn Thompkins was tired and started cramping up on the plane ride home. It was a great feeling, he said.

Thompkins subbed for injured Shaun Williams at free safety Saturday at California and played 96 downs, including punt and kickoff returns. He had six tackles, caused a fumble and tipped a pass that teammate Andy Colbert intercepted.

“I was so nervous the day before the game and just before the game,†he said Wednesday. “That went away the first play. They threw a pass, and it wasn’t even to my man, but the nervousness went away.â€

With Williams out, Thompkins, a junior, will start again this week against Stanford.
