HARD CHOICES
It’s unfortunate that the only letter you printed last Sunday about HBO’s “If These Walls Could Talk†was from a rabid anti-abortionist who obviously hadn’t even seen the film.
For the record, “If These Walls Could Talk†wasn’t entirely one-sided. The film portrays the issue as a hard and troubling one--pondering abortion isn’t exactly a picnic for anyone. We’re shown the grim savagery of those back-room butchers of the ‘50s; a woman who has raised many children foregoing her own dreams of college to raise yet another child; and the slaughter of a caring physician by a zealot.
The film isn’t always easy to watch, but it does clearly and quite effectively show what it would be like if the anti-abortionists had their way.
