Rio Mesa 35, Buena 21--The running of tailback Carl Richardson and quarterback Farhaad Azimi led Rio Mesa.
Richardson had 161 yards in 21 carries and scored from three, four and 12 yards, giving him a region-high 19 touchdowns this season.
Azimi had 99 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries.
The Spartans (6-1, 3-1) amassed 358 yards, all on the ground.
Jeff Taladay passed for 104 yards and rushed 81 yards for Buena (2-5, 1-3). The senior threw fourth-quarter scoring passes of 13 yards to Lucas Patterson and one yard to John Janzen.
Rio Mesa held a 21-7 lead after three quarters, and a one-yard score by Azimi gave the Spartans a 35-13 lead with less than two minutes to play.
